About Maxwell Webber
Maxwell an emerging artist based in Calgary, Canada and has been painting seriously for four years now. I am inspired by minimalism as well as the strange and surreal. Beginning with vibrant abstract works and landscapes, my style has shifted to embrace clean simplicity. My current work originated through exploring continuous single line portrait drawings and attempting to make them more bizarre and perhaps a little less human.
“Calculated spontaneity would describe how I usually create my work as they usually don’t involve extensive planning before the paint touches the canvas. Each piece starts with a single eye, nose or mouth and the rest organically branches out from there. I like to use both paper and canvas and I use a mixture of acrylic markers and paint brushes in my work. Occasionally I will take a painting into photoshop and use it as a base create something totally new, digitally. The iPad has been a fun creative tool lately to explore different avenues to take my work.”
